4 Steps to Setting New Goals

Evaluate where you are. Before you can set goals for yourself you have to determine where you are at setting new goalscurrently. If you don’t know, take some time to figure it out and process what you are doing that is working well and what isn’t working so good. The more you can thoughtfully process where you are at, the more effective the others steps you will be taking will be. Dream Big. Part of my favorite part of setting new goals is dreaming big. This is my time to think through what is it that I would love to accomplish and what steps can I take to get there. I really let my mind go and just dream big. In the same way, take time to process what you would like to accomplish and how you can be taking steps to get there. Pray. Now praying is something that you can do first. However, it doesn’t need to be. The reason why it doesn’t need to be first is because you can really do this at any time in the goal setting process. You want God apart of the process and really guiding you. It can be before you dream big or after that. Regardless, before you make final determinations on what your new goals will be, spend significant time praying, giving it over to God and asking Him to guide you to what you should be focusing on. Set Timely Goals. Whether you use something like SMART goals or some other tool, putting a due date or completion date time frame to your goal is highly recommended. It keeps you on task and gives you a time frame to complete your goal. Setting and achieving goals are really important for you in ministry. How you do it is a matter of preference for you. These are 4 ways I have discovered that work well for me. Incorporate them all into your process or just some of them. The more you can have a strategy for how you set up new goals that more likely you will be at in planning and achieving goals. What do you think? How do you go about setting new goals?
