Kahoot! A GREAT online tool to use in your Ministry

Kahoot! after a middle school home group when some of the students (including my own) were talking about using their phones to play a game they learned from school. They were having a blast playing this, laughing as they were making up these “quizzes” for everyone to play. As with anything, anytime someone is doing something online and/or having fun with it, I had to check it out.  And what I discovered was another great tool for ministers to use in their ministry. itWhat is Kahoot!?  According to Kahoot itself it is a, “Free Game-Based Platform Enables More Meaningful, Playful And Powerful Experiences, In Classrooms And Beyond”. Simply, it’s an online platform accessible through computers or your smart devices that causes you to engage with others either close by or in other countries to learn.  It’s NOT a game, but they way it interacts with students, they will think they are almost playing a game. How are people using it?  Teachers use it to teach their students and test their knowledge.  Students are using it to test their friends on how well they know each other (“See how well you know me, try my Kahoot!” is a phrase I kept on hearing). But it doesn’t have to end there.  I can really see ministers using this in a few different ways. How can ministers use this?  Here are a few ways…

  1. Sunday School Teachers can use to teach and quiz students on what they are learning so far in their class or for a lesson.
  2. Student Ministers can use it as a game for “How well do you know the leaders”
  3. Online Campus Pastors or ministers can use this to teach a class to anyone in the world.
  4. Ministry leaders can use it for training purposes and fun social interactions with people in small group gatherings or informal meeting times.
Even if everyone in your group doesn’t have a smartphone or tablet, it’s ok. People can just pair up or group up in a team so everyone can participate. The bottom line for me is that Kahoot! makes whatever you are doing interactive. And, if you are looking for a way to engage a group of people in your church or ministry, Kahoot looks like a great tool for you to use. What do you think?  Have you tried Kahoot! before?  How can you use it for ministry AND what other tools like Kahoot! are you using in your ministry? Share below or social media using the hashtag #ymsidekick. I would love to hear what your experiences are. ]]>

  1. We use it for our children’s church and also our midweek program. Our kids ask to play them over and over again! Even the same questions!
