Make Sure Your Boss Knows


 

  1. They could have helped you process through it. Sharing what was happening could provide your boss an opportunity to help you process what was happening and give more wisdom into the situation.
  2. They could have helped with legal knowledge. Some instances are minor and have no legal ramifications. However, some situations do require a legal response.  We are legally obligated to respond in certain situations.  Do you know all those situations?  You should but just in case, going over it with your boss provides you an opportunity to be reminded of or aware of some legal steps you may need to take.
  3. They would know what’s going on. This is important just in case something gets back to them. If that does happen, they will have already heard what’s happening from YOU, not someone else.  The more information they know while it’s happening the less surprised they are going to be if someone else shares with them the information.
Three reasons why your boss should know what’s going on.  But, how do you know what to let your bosses know of?  Simply talk it over with them when you start working there.  If you haven’t already talked what needs to be reported or not, go and talk today.  You don’t want to get yourself or your church in a legal bind. The sad thing is that many ministers and churches get in trouble because we think we can handle situations on our own.  It’s never a bad thing to get others involved in the process…especially our boss.
