In 1989 a baseball movie staring Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta, and Burt Lancaster came out and is rated as one of the all-time greatest baseball movies. It also won three Academy Awards. The movie was called “Field of Dreams.”
The is about an Iowa farmer named Ray Kinsella who hears a mysterious voice telling him to turn his cornfield into a baseball field. It is about reconciliation.
The clip below is from the end of the movie. It is when Ray Liotta’s character reveals to Kevin Costner’s character about the true meaning of the baseball field being built.
“Hey dad, want to have a catch?” Such powerful words.
Teaching Point
So what can we learn from this clip? This clip is powerful and it highlights the connection between a father and son.
Life is messy. People are messy. Families are messy. It is unfortunate that families have broken relationships but this gives us hope that there can be peace. There can be reconciliation. Furthermore, this highlights that our heavenly father, God, desires to be reconciled with us. He desires redemption.
The key is WE have to choose to ask God if He wants to have a catch. God is there and loves us. But, He won’t make us love Him. WE have to choose to accept the love, forgiveness and redemption that God gives us.
Challenge people to consider where they stand with their Heavenly Father, God and if they are ready for redemption.
The movie Field of Dreams highlights family reconciliation. In the same way, we can have redemption with our Heavenly Father. See how. Click To TweetBible Verses to Use

But the father welcomed him back with open arms and celebrated his return. This shows that reconciliation is possible. God desires to be reconciled with us. He shows a willingness to forgive and bring restoration.
