It’s a simple phrase. “Happy Birthday”! But it goes a long way.And here is why. It is showing youth and teens that you care about them AND it provides you an opportunity to reconnect with a person not currently in your ministry. For instance, here is a scenario. Say you had a student in your student ministry program but left either through graduation or falling through the cracks in some way. And say this student wasn’t following Christ much and not really involved in a Church. You may or may not know this at that time, but when their birthday came up and you wished them a “happy birthday” it may cause them to reflect on the positive experiences they had in the youth program. And, that reflection, could help them start to rediscover God in some way. Now this scenario may or may not ever happen, but if we see someone with a birthday that day on Facebook, maybe a simple, “Happy Birthday. I hope you have a great day” wish could go a long way in helping them in their faith in some way. God uses so many different things to draw people back to Him this is not out of the realm of possibility. So something you can do each and every day is wish everyone on your “birthday list” a happy birthday and see how God uses it. It sounds so simple, but it could be just what that person needed to start looking back to Christ. What do you think? What do you do with Facebook birthdays? Do you say something or no and why/why not? Share your thoughts below or on social media using #ymsidekick as part of your tweet. [mc4wp_form id="8855"] ]]>
