This past weekend was the Masters. It is arguably the most important and recognized Pro Golf event each year. Everyone strives for that Green Jacket…as ugly as any woman would say it was. But is is something that every golfer looks forward to and desires to be apart of it. Even though I was pulling for Phil Mickelson, congrats to Bubba Watson for winning it last night! It was a great weekend of golf. So how does this apply to ministry? Do you have an event like the Masters that your students look forward to? Do you have something students look forward to and can’t wait to happen? Being new as the Head Youth Guy at New Life the only tradition that there seems to be is the annual PCTC conference each year. We HAVE to go to that trip. When I was at Cedar Run we had an annual tradition called Cedar Run Live. Simply put, it was a Talent Show but it was a talent show with a little spice of The Cedar Run Youth Ministry. It ended up being a great night and students couldn’t wait til the next time we did one. Whether it is a service project, outreach event or a trip, having there “traditions” in your program can be a huge asset to your program. So right now, TAKE A MINUTE and think through what you do each year. Do you have a Masters on the books or do you need to come up with one? You can’t force it, it has to happen. But if you don’t have one, start processing with your team of leaders and students to see what you can come up with that can become a tradition unlike any other. Thoughts, comments, questions, suggestions? Post something so that we can all learn from each other and benefit. Here are some pictures of that 1st one we did years ago: ]]>
